Get the Report →Excel Spreadsheet Automation with the QUERY Formula
Pull data, automate spreadsheets, and more with the QUERY formula.
The CData Excel Add-In for Reckon Accounts Hosted provides formulas that can edit, save, and delete Reckon Accounts Hosted data. The following three steps show how you can automate the following task: Search Reckon Accounts Hosted data for a user-specified value and then organize the results into an Excel spreadsheet.
The syntax of the CDATAQUERY formula is the following:
=CDATAQUERY(Query, [Connection], [Parameters], [ResultLocation]);
This formula requires three inputs:
- Query: The declaration of the Reckon Accounts Hosted data records you want to retrieve or the modifications to be made, written in standard SQL.
Connection: Either the connection name, such as ReckonAccountsHostedConnection1, or a connection string. The connection string consists of the required properties for connecting to Reckon Accounts Hosted data, separated by semicolons.
The connector makes requests to Reckon Accounts Hosted through OAuth. Specify the following connection properties:
- SubscriptionKey: Required. You get this value when you created your developer account.
- CountryVersion: Defaults to 2021.R2.AU.
- CompanyFile: Required. The path to the company file.
- User: Required. The username of the company file.
- Password: Required. The password of the company file.
- InitiateOAuth: Set this to GETANDREFRESH to let the driver handle access tokens.
- CallbackURL: The redirectURI of your Custom OAuth App.
- OAuthClientId: The client id of your Custom OAuth App.
- OAuthClientSecret: The client secret of your Custom OAuth App.
CData provides an embedded OAuth application that simplifies OAuth desktop authentication. See the Help documentation for information on other OAuth authentication methods (web, headless, etc.), creating custom OAuth applications, and reasons for doing so.
- ResultLocation: The cell that the output of results should start from.
Pass Spreadsheet Cells as Inputs to the Query
The procedure below results in a spreadsheet that organizes all the formula inputs in the first column.
- Define cells for the formula inputs. In addition to the connection inputs, add another input to define a criterion for a filter to be used to search Reckon Accounts Hosted data, such as IsActive.
- In another cell, write the formula, referencing the cell values from the user input cells defined above. Single quotes are used to enclose values such as addresses that may contain spaces.
- Change the filter to change the data.
=CDATAQUERY("SELECT * FROM Accounts WHERE IsActive = '"&B9&"'","SubscriptionKey="&B1&";CountryVersion="&B2&";CompanyFile="&B3&";User="&B4&";Password="&B5&";CallbackURL="&B6&";OAuthClientId="&B7&";OAuthClientSecret="&B8&";Provider=ReckonAccountsHosted",B10)
