A Flurry of Snowflake Integrations

Snowflake is a leading cloud data warehouse and a popular backbone for enterprise BI, Analytics, Data Management, and Governance initiatives. It's fast query access, dynamic auto-scaling, cloud-first architecture, and fully-managed SaaS delivery model make it a common choice for cloud data consolidation.

As with any data warehouse, ingestion and data connectivity are essential components for maximizing utility. To make the most of Snowflake, customers need to be able to easily integrate data from all of the diverse applications, databases, and services that they use across their organization. At the same time, businesses need to be able to connect a wide range of BI, AI, and Reporting applications to their data warehouse to deliver insights and aid decision making.

Our Snowflake integrations offer universally accessible SQL-92 wrappers around the Snowflake APIs, enabling straightforward integration with a wide range of BI, Analytics, and Integration tools. In this post, we briefly explore a few popular ways that customers can work with Snowflake through our tools:

  • SSIS Components - incorporate Snowflake data into automated workflows
  • ADO.NET Providers - build OLAP cubes and deploy them to SSAS for enterprise-grade analytics
  • CData Sync - replicate more than 140+ data sources to Snowflake data warehouses

SSIS Workflows with Snowflake

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) provides data integration, transformation, and migration for Microsoft SQL Server and more. It can be used to build workflows to integrate data from a variety of sources and perform various data-centric tasks like analysis and data cleansing. SSIS can even be used to run ETL processes to update a Snowflake data warehouse.

With the CData SSIS Components for Snowflake, users get access to live Snowflake data within their SSIS workflows. Using the source component in a data flow task allows users to retrieve data from Snowflake and create automated workflows to transform and store data or make data-driven decisions. Using the destination component, users can automate the process of extracting data from SQL Server or flat files and loading it into a Snowflake data warehouse.

Snowflake and SSAS with ADO.NET Providers

Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) is an analytical data engine used in decision support and business analytics. It provides enterprise-grade semantic data models for business reports and client applications, such as Power BI, Excel, Reporting Services reports, and other data visualization tools.

With the CData ADO.NET Provider for Snowflake users can build and deploy OLAP cubes from Snowflake warehouses into SSAS. With an OLAP cube for Snowflake in an SSAS instance, users can readily analyze, report on, and view Snowflake data to make decisions that drive business.

For a detailed walk-through of using the CData ADO.NET Provider to create OLAP cubes of Snowflake data, read our Knowledge Base article.

Moving Data to Snowflake with CData Sync

As a data warehouse, Snowflake can be used to house the entirety of an organization's data. With the average enterprise connecting to dozens of SaaS applications on-premise applications, integrating all of that data to a single warehouse can be a monumental task.

CData Sync includes connectivity to more than 140 SaaS, big data, and NoSQL sources, both on-premises and in the cloud, all of which can be easily replicated to Snowflake. The data replication can be customized and automated to facilitate data migration, operational reporting, data analytics and decision support in BI tools, data archival for disaster recovery, and much more.

Check out our Knowledge Base article for an in-depth look at using CData Sync to replicate NetSuite data to a Snowflake data warehouse.

Other Integrations

In addition to ADO.NET Providers, SSIS Components, and the CData Sync application, CData has drivers built to the ODBC and JDBC database standards, offering connectivity to Snowflake in a wide variety of applications across the Windows, Mac, and Linux ecosystems. CData solutions also allow users to work with Snowflake data directly within tools like Excel, BizTalk, and PowerShell through native add-ins, adapters, and modules. Whether a business is using tools and applications for BI, analytics, reporting, and ETL or building custom applications, CData drivers provide live access to Snowflake data wherever needed.
