Replicate Multiple MongoDB Accounts

Replicate multiple MongoDB accounts to one or many databases.

CData Sync for MongoDB is a stand-alone application that provides solutions for a variety of replication scenarios such as replicating sandbox and production instances into your database. Both Sync for Windows and Sync for Java include a command-line interface (CLI) that makes it easy to manage multiple MongoDB connections. In this article we show how to use the CLI to replicate multiple MongoDB accounts.

About MongoDB Data Integration

Accessing and integrating live data from MongoDB has never been easier with CData. Customers rely on CData connectivity to:

MongoDB's flexibility means that it can be used as a transactional, operational, or analytical database. That means CData customers use our solutions to integrate their business data with MongoDB or integrate their MongoDB data with their data warehouse (or both). Customers also leverage our live connectivity options to analyze and report on MongoDB directly from their preferred tools, like Power BI and Tableau.

Getting Started

Configure MongoDB Connections

You can save connection and email notification settings in an XML configuration file. To replicate multiple MongoDB accounts, use multiple configuration files. Below is an example configuration to replicate MongoDB to SQLite:

Windows

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <CDataSync> <DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType> <DatabaseProvider>System.Data.SQLite</DatabaseProvider> <ConnectionString>Server=MyServer;Port=27017;Database=test;User=test;Password=Password;</ConnectionString> <ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll> <NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName> <DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString> <TaskSchedulerStartTime>09:51</TaskSchedulerStartTime> <TaskSchedulerInterval>Never</TaskSchedulerInterval> </CDataSync>

Java

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <CDataSync> <DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType> <DatabaseProvider>org.sqlite.JDBC</DatabaseProvider> <ConnectionString>Server=MyServer;Port=27017;Database=test;User=test;Password=Password;</ConnectionString> <ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll> <NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName> <DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString> </CDataSync>

Set the Server, Database, User, and Password connection properties to connect to MongoDB. To access MongoDB collections as tables you can use automatic schema discovery or write your own schema definitions. Schemas are defined in .rsd files, which have a simple format. You can also execute free-form queries that are not tied to the schema.

Configure Queries for Each MongoDB Instance

Sync enables you to control replication with standard SQL. The REPLICATE statement is a high-level command that caches and maintains a table in your database. You can define any SELECT query supported by the MongoDB API. The statement below caches and incrementally updates a table of MongoDB data:

REPLICATE restaurants;

You can specify a file containing the replication queries you want to use to update a particular database. Separate replication statements with semicolons. The following options are useful if you are replicating multiple MongoDB accounts into the same database:

You can use a different table prefix in the REPLICATE SELECT statement:

REPLICATE PROD_restaurants SELECT * FROM restaurants

Alternatively, you can use a different schema:

REPLICATE PROD.restaurants SELECT * FROM restaurants

Run Sync

After you have configured the connection strings and replication queries, you can run Sync with the following command-line options:

Windows

MongoDBSync.exe -g MyProductionMongoDBConfig.xml -f MyProductionMongoDBSync.sql

Java

java -Xbootclasspath/p:c:\sqlitejdbc.jar -jar MongoDBSync.jar -g MyProductionMongoDBConfig.xml -f MyProductionMongoDBSync.sql
