Replicate Multiple Dynamics 365 Business Central Accounts

Replicate multiple Dynamics 365 Business Central accounts to one or many databases.

CData Sync for Dynamics 365 Business Central is a stand-alone application that provides solutions for a variety of replication scenarios such as replicating sandbox and production instances into your database. Both Sync for Windows and Sync for Java include a command-line interface (CLI) that makes it easy to manage multiple Dynamics 365 Business Central connections. In this article we show how to use the CLI to replicate multiple Dynamics 365 Business Central accounts.

Configure Dynamics 365 Business Central Connections

You can save connection and email notification settings in an XML configuration file. To replicate multiple Dynamics 365 Business Central accounts, use multiple configuration files. Below is an example configuration to replicate Dynamics 365 Business Central to SQLite:

Windows

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <CDataSync> <DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType> <DatabaseProvider>System.Data.SQLite</DatabaseProvider> <ConnectionString>OrganizationUrl=https://myaccount.financials.dynamics.com/;</ConnectionString> <ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll> <NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName> <DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString> <TaskSchedulerStartTime>09:51</TaskSchedulerStartTime> <TaskSchedulerInterval>Never</TaskSchedulerInterval> </CDataSync>

Java

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <CDataSync> <DatabaseType>SQLite</DatabaseType> <DatabaseProvider>org.sqlite.JDBC</DatabaseProvider> <ConnectionString>OrganizationUrl=https://myaccount.financials.dynamics.com/;</ConnectionString> <ReplicateAll>False</ReplicateAll> <NotificationUserName></NotificationUserName> <DatabaseConnectionString>Data Source=C:\my.db</DatabaseConnectionString> </CDataSync>

To authenticate to Dynamics 365 Business Central, you must provide the User and AccessKey properties.

To obtain the User and AccessKey values, navigate to the Users page in Dynamics 365 Business Central and then click on Edit. The User Name and Web Service Access Key values are what you will enter as the User and AccessKey connection string properties. Note that the User Name is not your email address. It is a shortened user name.

To connect to data, specify OrganizationUrl. If you have multiple companies in your organization, you must also specify the Company to indicate which company you would like to connect to. Company does not need to be specified if you have only one company.

Configure Queries for Each Dynamics 365 Business Central Instance

Sync enables you to control replication with standard SQL. The REPLICATE statement is a high-level command that caches and maintains a table in your database. You can define any SELECT query supported by the Dynamics 365 Business Central API. The statement below caches and incrementally updates a table of Dynamics 365 Business Central data:

REPLICATE Accounts;

You can specify a file containing the replication queries you want to use to update a particular database. Separate replication statements with semicolons. The following options are useful if you are replicating multiple Dynamics 365 Business Central accounts into the same database:

You can use a different table prefix in the REPLICATE SELECT statement:

REPLICATE PROD_Accounts SELECT * FROM Accounts

Alternatively, you can use a different schema:

REPLICATE PROD.Accounts SELECT * FROM Accounts

Run Sync

After you have configured the connection strings and replication queries, you can run Sync with the following command-line options:

Windows

D365BusinessCentralSync.exe -g MyProductionD365BusinessCentralConfig.xml -f MyProductionD365BusinessCentralSync.sql

Java

java -Xbootclasspath/p:c:\sqlitejdbc.jar -jar D365BusinessCentralSync.jar -g MyProductionD365BusinessCentralConfig.xml -f MyProductionD365BusinessCentralSync.sql
