Connect to Dynamics 365 Business Central Data in RazorSQL

Connect to Dynamics 365 Business Central from wizards and query Dynamics 365 Business Central data from the GUI in the RazorSQL database management tool.

The CData JDBC Driver for Dynamics 365 Business Central enables standards-based access from third-party tools, from wizards in IDEs to data management and analysis tools. This article shows how to connect to Dynamics 365 Business Central using wizards in RazorSQL.

Create a JDBC Data Source for Dynamics 365 Business Central Data

  1. Open the RazorSQL application and, in the Connections menu, select Add Connection Profile -> Other -> JDBC.
  2. In the Connection Wizard that appears, set the following properties:
    • Driver Location: Set this property to the path to the lib subfolder in the installation directory.
    • Driver Class: Set the driver class to cdata.jdbc.d365businesscentral.D365BusinessCentralDriver.
    • Username: Enter the username. (This property can also be set in the JDBC URL.)
    • Password: Enter the password. (This property can also be set in the JDBC URL.)
    • JDBC URL: Enter connection parameters. The JDBC URL begins with jdbc:d365businesscentral: and is followed by a semicolon-separated list of connection properties.

To authenticate to Dynamics 365 Business Central, you must provide the User and AccessKey properties.

To obtain the User and AccessKey values, navigate to the Users page in Dynamics 365 Business Central and then click on Edit. The User Name and Web Service Access Key values are what you will enter as the User and AccessKey connection string properties. Note that the User Name is not your email address. It is a shortened user name.

To connect to data, specify OrganizationUrl. If you have multiple companies in your organization, you must also specify the Company to indicate which company you would like to connect to. Company does not need to be specified if you have only one company.

      Built-in Connection String Designer

For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Dynamics 365 Business Central JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

      java -jar cdata.jdbc.d365businesscentral.jar

Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

A typical JDBC URL is the following:

      jdbc:d365businesscentral:OrganizationUrl=https://myaccount.financials.dynamics.com/;

Query Dynamics 365 Business Central Data and Select Tables

After establishing a connection, the wizard will close and the connection will be available in the connections panel. You can then query the tables.
