Connect to Dynamics 365 Business Central Data in Aqua Data Studio

Access Dynamics 365 Business Central data from tools in Aqua Data Studio such as the Visual Query Builder and the Table Data Editor.

The CData JDBC Driver for Dynamics 365 Business Central integrates Dynamics 365 Business Central data with wizards and analytics in IDEs like Aqua Data Studio. This article shows how to connect to Dynamics 365 Business Central data through the connection manager and execute queries.

Create a JDBC Data Source

You can use the connection manager to define connection properties and save them in a new JDBC data source. The Dynamics 365 Business Central data source can then be accessed from Aqua Data Studio tools.

  1. In Aqua Data Studio, select Register Server from the Servers menu.
  2. In the Register Server form, select the 'Generic - JDBC' connection.
  3. Enter the following JDBC connection properties:
    • Name: Enter a name for the data source; for example, Dynamics 365 Business Central.
    • Driver Location: Click the Browse button and select the cdata.jdbc.d365businesscentral.jar file, located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory.
    • Driver: Enter the Driver's class name, cdata.jdbc.d365businesscentral.D365BusinessCentralDriver.
    • URL: Enter the JDBC URL, which starts with jdbc:d365businesscentral: and is followed by a semicolon-separated list of connection properties.

To authenticate to Dynamics 365 Business Central, you must provide the User and AccessKey properties.

To obtain the User and AccessKey values, navigate to the Users page in Dynamics 365 Business Central and then click on Edit. The User Name and Web Service Access Key values are what you will enter as the User and AccessKey connection string properties. Note that the User Name is not your email address. It is a shortened user name.

To connect to data, specify OrganizationUrl. If you have multiple companies in your organization, you must also specify the Company to indicate which company you would like to connect to. Company does not need to be specified if you have only one company.

      Built-in Connection String Designer

For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Dynamics 365 Business Central JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

      java -jar cdata.jdbc.d365businesscentral.jar

Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

A typical JDBC URL is below:

      jdbc:d365businesscentral:OrganizationUrl=https://myaccount.financials.dynamics.com/;
