How to Query Monday.com Data in MySQL Workbench



Execute MySQL queries against live Monday.com data from MySQL Workbench.

You can use the SQL Gateway from the ODBC Driver for Monday.com to query Monday.com data through a MySQL interface. Follow the procedure below to start the MySQL remoting service of the SQL Gateway and work with live Monday.com data in MySQL Workbench.

Connect to Monday.com Data

If you have not already done so, provide values for the required connection properties in the data source name (DSN). You can use the built-in Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to configure the DSN. This is also the last step of the driver installation. See the "Getting Started" chapter in the help documentation for a guide to using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure a DSN.

You can connect to Monday.com using either API Token authentication or OAuth authentication.

Connecting with an API Token

Connect to Monday.com by specifying the APIToken. Set the AuthScheme to Token and obtain the APIToken as follows:

  • API tokens for admin users
    1. Log in to your Monday.com account and click on your avatar in the bottom left corner.
    2. Select Admin.
    3. Select "API" on the left side of the Admin page.
    4. Click the "Copy" button to copy the user's API token.
  • API tokens for non-admin users
    1. Click on your profile picture in the bottom left of your screen.
    2. Select "Developers"
    3. Click "Developer" and then "My Access Tokens" at the top.
    4. Select "Show" next to the API token, where you'll be able to copy it.

Connecting with OAuth Authentication

Alternatively, you can establish a connection using OAuth (refer to the OAuth section of the Help documentation).

Configure the SQL Gateway

See the SQL Gateway Overview to set up connectivity to Monday.com data as a virtual MySQL database. You will configure a MySQL remoting service that listens for MySQL requests from clients. The service can be configured in the SQL Gateway UI.

Query Monday.com from MySQL Workbench

The steps below outline connecting to the virtual Monday.com database created in the SQL Gateway from MySQL Workbench and issuing basic queries to work with live Monday.com data.

Connect to Monday.com through the SQL Gateway

  1. In MySQL Workbench, click to add a new MySQL connection.
  2. Name the connection (CData SQL Gateway for Monday.com).
  3. Set the Hostname, Port, and Username parameters to connect to the SQL Gateway.
  4. Click Store in Vault to set and store the password.
  5. Click Test Connection to ensure the connection is configured properly and click OK.

Query Monday.com Data

  1. Open the connection you just created (CData SQL Gateway for Monday.com).
  2. Click File -> New Query Tab.
  3. Write a SQL query to retrieve Monday.com data, like SELECT * FROM `CData Monday Sys`.Invoices;
